All Applicants Must Provide Adequate ID - every applicant is required to provide sufficient identification to prove his/her identity. A legal photo ID like a driver's license, passports, government agency/work IDs, some school IDs, etc. will do this. Persons without photo IDs, and/or young persons must supply TWO forms of alternate identification such as: Non-photo ID/driver's license; a Social Security Card; a Birth certificate (must have the appropriate seal); Minor's work permit or school report card; Utility bill, bank statement or other business correspondence that specifically names the person; A postmarked envelope addressed to the person indicating the same mailing address as shown on Form 605; or an employment ID.

Your FRN or SSN is required on your application. You can register for a FRN before your first test session at https://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do . Recent licenses have your FRN printed below your address. You may safely use your SSN, with no delay, and we don't keep SSNs in our files.

Photocopies. Make and bring a photocopy of each credit document, like current license, grandfathered license, test session CSCE, FCC letter, or callbook page. Also bring the originals, they must match the photocopies that we submit with your application. You always keep the originals.

Bring black or blue ink pens and pencils, and if needed, a calculator with cleared memory. Some teams allow a retest (another fee applies) if you miss by a few questions. Cramming in the hallway with study material kept in your car may be helpful.

UPGRADING- Look above for the elements required for the license class you want. Look below for the credits from your current license, and even old expired licenses. Compare the credits, just pass the elements you don't have.
OLD LICENSE CREDIT- many still don't know they might have general exam credit (element 3) from a long expired technician license they held years ago. Nice if you're getting back into the hobby. And why not take the extra exam at the same time? It's included in the fee you paid to do the "examless" upgrade. Your extra class license is only 37 correct questions away! Note that you still need (to pass) element 2 with the old tech element 3 credit for a general license.

CREDIT DOCUMENT RESOURCES* & CONTACTS
WWW.QRZ.COM has posted a copy from their archives of their very first CD ROM product on their web page, as originally published in 1993. This data includes licensees from 1983 to 1993. A printout of such a listing from this CD ROM, showing a Technician license effective/begin date prior to 3/21/87 is acceptable.
A Radio Amateur Callbook listing may be acceptable as proof for element 3 credit (must include the year of publication reference, if not printed on the page). A listing showing the class of "Technician" with a publication date of 1987 or earlier is valid for lifetime General written test credit.
An FCC-issued License Verification Letter indicating that the applicant was licensed as a Technician licensee prior to March 21, 1987. To request such a letter, write to FCC, ATTN: Amateur Section, 1270 Fairfield Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325 (or fax 717-338-2696)
$ The Radio Amateur Callbook company will, for a $10 fee, provide a notarized "Proof of Licensing" document which (if it shows the appropriate information per above) will serve your credit-proof requirements. The Callbook only began listing the class of licensee in the Fall 1967 and later Callbooks. Any Callbook published before the Fall of 1967 is not useful to prove that someone was a Technician licensee. For more information contact: Radio Amateur Callbook, 575 Prospect St., Lakewood, NJ 08701; E-mail: 103424.2142@compuserve.com ; or call 732-905-2961 (choose option 5)
